Enipea Canyon

The route from Litochoro to the Vythos area of the Enipeas River is an easy route to Olympus. This route, the most accessible and representative, attracts many tourists from all over the world who wish to enjoy a quick contact with the unique beauty of the Mountain of the Gods. The path starts from Myloi, a little above Litochoro. The route leads to an impressively large opening, where a waterfall forms with a spectacular view of the peaks of Olympus. The entire route is densely vegetated, hosting almost all types of Mediterranean flora. Of interest is the cotinus, whose feathers make it distinct towards the end of spring-summer, while in autumn its leaves acquire a brilliant orange-red hue.

The park has areas for rest, games for children and benches for relaxation. An area on the banks of the Enipeas river, where for years it has been a place of rest, relaxation and recreation. Where once the craft activity of the area developed, with a tsipouro distillery, tanneries, water mill and water mills, now there are shops (cafes, taverns) that attract a lot of people. The scenery is enchanting, as you enjoy your coffee under the plane trees, while you hear the waters of Enipeas flowing non-stop. Access is easy, while there is a parking space. For walkers, a trail starts from Lakko that will lead them to the international trail E4 to Mount Olympus.

In Leptokarya, at the foot of Mount Olympus, is the Museum of Geological History of Mount Olympus. Open since 2013, this geological museum presents the evolution of Olympus through geological time. In the exhibition halls of the museum, you can see rocks and minerals from the Olympus area, as well as fossils from Olympus and the surrounding area. In addition, there is a separate exhibition hall dedicated exclusively to Olympus, presenting the history of the formation of the mountains, fossils, and the geological development of the area.

Holy Cave of Agios Dionysios in Olympus

In 1542, Saint Dionysios settled in Olympus, where at an altitude of 900m. created the old Monastery. The monastery is located on a natural fortified plateau, between two streams, at a distance of 18 kilometers from Litochoro and in the Enipea gorge. He dedicated the Monastery to the Holy Trinity, but later the name "Holy Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus" prevailed. Saint Dionysios practiced in a cave under a rock, known as "Holy Cave", which remains unchanged and attracts thousands of visitors every day. The easiest way to reach the small chapel is to drive to the Old Holy Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus and then walk to the Cave.

Cave of Vassilios Ithakisios

A painter who chooses the caves of Olympus as his workshop. The cave that bears his name is located near the Petrostruga shelter. The path that leads to the cave starts from Gortsia place, and following the path, you reach the cave after turning left from the reservoir place. Stream of Orlias

The stream of Orlias, previously known as Heliconas, is one of the oldest streams in Pieria and is linked to the myth of Orpheus. According to legend, Helikon was home to the Pierid Muses and was the place of Orpheus' tragic death. The effort of the Muses to purify the waters of the river and its subsequent transformation into Orlia or Vaphyra, contributed to the creation of the myth of the area.

The Pyramids of Olympus
